Starting Dec. 11, Liberty Hill residents can expect construction at the intersection of Main Street and RM 1869, and once the work is completed, new turn lanes.

What you need to know

Left-turn lanes in both directions of Main Street with a shared right and straight-through lane will be added to improve traffic flow at the intersection.

Officials said traffic flow will not be affected during construction, and no lane closures or detours are planned.

Project Manager James Herrera said at a Nov. 29 meeting that the part of the project that involves widening the roadway is currently underway, since it won't affect traffic. In order to widen the road, on-street parking spaces on Main Street will be removed, according to the city.

Also of note

The improvements at the Main Street and RM 1869 intersection coincides with the recently opened roundabout, which is located where Main Street, CR 279 and Munro Street meet.

While the roundabout opened in late November, Herrera said the remaining work is striping and the addition of decorative pieces in the center. City leaders said the project will reach 100% completion in mid-January.

Herrera said the turn lanes will take roughly three days to complete with striping to follow. Once the turn lanes are completed, Main Street will look like one continuous roadway from RM 1869 through the roundabout portion.

“All these downtown street projects will be complete in December, so Merry Christmas,” Herrera said.
