Liberty Hill ISD—known by its purple and gold Liberty Hill High School Panthers—will soon welcome the Columbia blue and navy Legacy Ranch High School Wranglers.

What’s happening?

The board of trustees selected the wranglers as the mascot, and Columbia blue and navy as the colors for Legacy Ranch High School at a Dec. 11 special meeting. The decision follows a monthslong process of receiving input from Santa Rita Middle School students who will attend the new high school beginning in August.

The wranglers mascot and blue color scheme were some of the top student recommendations presented at a Nov. 13 board of trustees meeting. The school's branding will also feature gold as a tertiary color as the board requested gold be used across the district at the meeting, said Rachel Acosta, LHISD director of communications and community engagement.

Specific designs for the mascot will be presented at a Dec. 18 board of trustees meeting, she said.

How we got here

The district began garnering feedback from Santa Rita Middle School students in late September through a survey on three types of mascots: cat nation, ranch theme, and alliteration starting with an L or R. About 80% of survey respondents voted for cat nation followed by 74% for ranch theme.

Student leaders and groups narrowed down survey results in October and shared how committed they were to various mascots and color combinations in November, according to a presentation at a Nov. 13 meeting.

The background

The district’s second high school will open to incoming ninth graders at Middle School No. 3 next school year until its official campus opens for the 2026-27 school year. Former Leander ISD Principal Mark Koller started as the principal for Legacy Ranch in November.

Going forward

District staff will present a comprehensive branding package featuring mascot design options at a Dec. 18 board meeting, Acosta said. The district will then move forward with a design or make adjustments depending on feedback from the board, she said.
