Qahwah House, a new coffee shop selling Yemeni coffee, tea and pastries, held its official opening in Leander on Nov. 26.

The background

Owner Adil Mufti said the practice of brewing and roasting coffee beans originated in Yemen, and the shop tries to maintain the standards of the original coffee roasters.

Qahwah imports coffee beans directly from Yemen and adheres to traditional brewing and roasting methods. Baristas are rigorously trained over three weeks to maintain consistent quality.

Mufti said he wants Qahwah to feel like a comforting destination for his guests.

“We like to say that our house is your house,” Mufti said. “We want to give that experience... like you’re sitting on your own couch.”

What they offer

In addition to coffee, the shop sells a variety of teas. Mufti said the store’s most popular offering is the Adeni chai, which mixes black tea, cardamom, nutmeg and milk. The store sells pastries made in-house, including the honeycomb, which is stuffed with cheese and glazed with honey.
