In April, Cedar Park City Council approved a homestead exemption that would remove either 1 percent or $10,000, whichever is higher, off the appraised value of a property from the city’s property taxes. The city announced Sept. 27 that the minimum would be reduced to $5,000 after review by the Texas Attorney General.

“The council wanted to direct more property tax relief to homeowners than this,” Cedar Park Mayor Corbin Van Arsdale said in the city’s statement, “But in spite of the state’s limitations, we’re glad we at least got the city’s first-ever homestead exemption in place.”

Williamson Central Appraisal District accepted the adopted homestead exemption, including the $10,000 minimum, but Travis Central Appraisal District reduced it to $5,000, according the city.
