Leander City Council gave initial approval to a concept plan, preliminary plat and planned unit development zoning for approximately 20.7 acres located southwest of the intersection of Woodview Drive and Raider Way in Leander during a Thursday night meeting.

The single-family residential condominium development, called the Enclave at Stewart Crossing, is located near Rouse High School and Wiley Middle School. The gated community is planned to include single-family townhomes, according to city documents. The townhomes will include detached and attached residences along with community courtyard parks, developer Todd Madden said.

“There’s a lot of things to work through as we were moving forward on this, and we think we came up with a really good project,” he said.

Madden said the developer wanted to provide continuous parkland throughout the site and clusters of trees to be focused in open spaces to promote higher community engagement. He said the goals for the development included providing a transition between the existing multifamily apartments to the nearby single-family neighborhood, preserving natural features of the land and promoting walkability.

Leander’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved the developer’s request during a Sept. 14 meeting without staff’s recommendation for a roadway connection to the west, though P&Z did add a 5-foot concrete pedestrian path to the plan. City Council gave the first round of approval to the developer’s plan during Thursday night's meeting, though the rezoning will come back before council at a future meeting for a final vote.
