Here are four transportation updates for the Lake Travis and Westlake areas, according to the Texas Department of Transportation and Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.
Ongoing projects
Loop 360’s Westlake Drive/Cedar Street
Project: As part of the larger Loop 360 Program, the project will remove traffic signals from main lanes, create an underpass beneath both cross streets, and add shared-use paths and sidewalks.
Update: Both bridges are now open, and work on excavating the main lanes continues. Crews moved signals to permanent structures at Westlake Drive on Jan. 23.
Loop 360’s Courtyard Drive/RM 2222
Project: The project will remove traffic signals from main lanes, construct an underpass at Courtyard Drive, reconfigure RM 2222 to include a diverging diamond interchange, and add shared-use paths and sidewalks.
Update: Excavation is ongoing for the west cliffs by the southbound lanes.
Completed projects
Hwy. 71 Safety Improvement Project
Project: The project will implement medians on Hwy. 71 from Bee Creek Road to Bee Cave Parkway.
Update: The median project was completed in January.
183 North Mobility Project northbound connector
Project: The project includes the construction of two express lanes in each direction on US 183, a general-purpose lane to bring the number of nontolled lanes to four in each direction, new shared use path connections, new sidewalks and cross-street connections for bicycles and pedestrians.
Update: The northbound direct connector opened Jan. 31 following the opening of the express lanes Jan. 2. The southbound express lanes and direct connector are slated to open in the coming months.
