Across the Lake Travis region, several projects have been undertaken by city and state authorities in order to improve roads and intersections. Here are a few recent transportation updates shared by those authorities.

Upcoming projects

RM 620 widening

Project: A road widening will expand RM 620 to six through-lanes and add raised medians and shared-use paths between Hwy. 71 and Hudson Bend Road.

Update: The RM 620 widening project in Lakeway, led by TxDOT, has been delayed and will likely not “become a reality until around 2030,” City Manager Joseph Molis said at a Sept. 15 Lakeway City Council meeting.

Ongoing projects


SH 71 safety improvement project

Project: The project is designed to improve safety and mobility by implementing raised medians on Hwy. 71 between Bee Creek Road and Hamilton Pool Road.

Update: Crews are pouring concrete medians in small segments from Hamilton Pool Road/Bee Cave Parkway to Bee Cave Road, a TxDOT representative said Sept. 23.

Loop 360 program

Project: The Loop 360 program, led by TxDOT, includes four separate road improvement projects between US 183 and US 290.


Update: A new Westlake Drive bridge opened Aug. 1, and construction on a Cedar Street bridge began early in September, a TxDOT representative said. Cedar Street bridge construction began in September, and east-west access will be closed for four months.

Wild Cherry/Flint Rock road traffic signal

Project: This project, which is included in the city’s 2022 transportation bond, will see a new light installed at the intersection of Wild Cherry Drive and Flint Rock Road.

Update: Work is currently underway on the project as of Sept. 15.

Flint Rock Road improvements

Project: Flint Rock Road safety improvements include adding shoulders and left turn lanes and widening portions of the road to four lanes.


Update: Improvements to the road are in various stages of installation as of Sept. 15.

Completed projects

RM 620 and Palazza Alto Drive traffic signal

Project:The city cooperated with TxDOT to add a traffic signal to the intersection between RM 620 and Palazza Alto Drive.

Update: A traffic signal is operational.
