Taylor, now in his third year with the force, is the “epitome of what a well-rounded police officer is,” interim Police Chief Bill Pitmon said.
What they said
“It's definitely what we look for, what we recruit for,” Pitmon said. “He's the kind of guy that can help you get groceries to your car or protect you from your worst nightmare. And that's exactly what we need out here. We need that versatility.”
The local impact
Bee Cave police projects to remain fully staffed at 23 officers in 2026, Pitmon said. The department is allotted 23 officers, 18 are currently on duty with three more scheduled to graduate the police academy in March. The process is underway to fill the remaining two openings.
Officer recruiting and retention is more challenging than ever, Pitmon said. The department is now open to applicants who are certified or have no previous experience.
“Nowadays it’s really hard to find good applicants, but we are getting them,” Pitmon said. “I think that’s attributed to the department we have.”
Pitmon, a Bee Cave lieutenant, was named the interim chief in September after Chief Brian Jones announced his retirement after 29 years in law enforcement. Pitmon has been a member of the Bee Cave Police Department for 18 years.
