Bee Cave Mayor Kara King announced this fall that she will run in the Republican primary election to represent Texas’ 10th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives in March.
The overview
In a video shared to Facebook on Oct. 15, King announced her campaign to run for District 10, which stretches from Austin to Houston.
“For many years, I’ve had the incredible honor [of] serving this community I love,” King said in the video. "We’ve faced a global pandemic, storms, power outages, and rapid growth, and every single time, Bee Cave has come through stronger because we show up for one another. Now, after a lot of prayer and family talks, it’s time to take that same hands-on spirit to Washington, D.C.”
King stated that she would complete her term as mayor of Bee Cave in May.
“I will continue to proudly serve as your mayor through the end of my term in May of 2026,” King said. “This spring, you still have a chance to vote for me; it’s just going to be on a different ballot.”
The details
District 10’s current representative, U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Austin, announced his decision not to pursue reelection Sept. 15.
According to a new campaign webpage, King will run on a platform that supports “strong borders, strong families, [and] safe communities,” with King also declaring her support for President Donald Trump and the America First movement.
On the webpage, King also advocates for Second Amendment rights and pro-life policies.
King was elected as mayor of Bee Cave in 2020, and reelected in 2022 and 2024. In total, she has served the city of Bee Cave for 12.5 years, including her experience as a council member.
