The Lakeway Activity Center will soon feature a new playscape, with support for the project provided by a $50,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Lakeway/Lake Travis.
The overview
The donation was received at an Aug. 18 Lakeway City Council meeting.
The playscape is part of improvements planned for the Lakeway Activity Center, one project listed in Lakeway’s 2024 Parks Bond, in which voters approved $22 million in funding for five city park projects.
Other projects include Butler Rough Hollow Park, Lakeway City Park, Lakeway Swim Center and Live Oak Tennis Courts.
The total budget for the Activity Center is $508,771, according to a July 21 staff report. Site and drainage work for the center began in May, and installation of the new “all-inclusive playground” structure began in late June, according to city documents.
The details
The Rotary Club donation will be used exclusively for initiatives benefitting the Lakeway Activity Center playscape, according to city documents.
“We talked about [the Rotary Club’s] mission and their goals, and did that align with the city of Lakeway and the Parks and Recreation department, and it absolutely does,” Lakeway Parks Director Andra Bennett said. “They wanted to connect children of all ages and abilities through play. ... [They had] a desire to create a place where imagination runs free and everyone is welcome, which is exactly what this playscape is designed for.”
In order to recognize the club’s contribution, the city will create a plaque for $2,237, to be placed at the entrance of the playscape, in honor of both city taxpayers and the Rotary Club.
Stokes Sign Company will provide the sign’s wording, according to city documents.
What’s next?
The playscape is expected to be complete by the middle of September, Lakeway Communications Director Jarrod Wise said.
Sept. 27 is the city’s current tentative date for the park’s ribbon-cutting, Wise said.
