As part of the city’s efforts to incorporate recent charter amendments approved this spring, Lakeway City Council appointed members to two boards at the July 7 meeting.

While the appointment of members to the Board of Adjustment was unanimously approved, the Board of Ethics appointments were approved 5-2, with Mayor Tom Kilgore and council member Matt Sherman voting against.

The background

Proposition E, approved by 64% voters, standardizes how board and commission appointments are made, allowing each council member to appoint one person to each board for a one-year term, with the mayor’s appointee serving as the chair. Terms previously coincided with the term of the appointing council member or mayor and continued until a successor was appointed, according to city documents.

Proposition F was not passed by voters in May, and would have mandated the elimination of the city’s Board of Ethics while still requiring the city to adopt an ethics ordinance.
