Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect that no action was taken at Lakeway City Council’s June 16 meeting on Butler Park’s parkland dedication.
The City of Lakeway is moving forward with construction plans for Butler Park and considering a park land dedication from RH Lakeway Development LTD.
The overview
The park parcel proposed to be dedicated is 11.034 acres in size. Ownership would be transferred from RH Lakeway Development LTD, with the land prepared for the city per a plan laid out in the city’s development agreement.
A decision on whether or not to accept the parkland dedication is expected to be made at council’s July 21 regular meeting, Lakeway Communications Director Jarrod Wise said.
Plans for the park include constructing a multi-sports complex, amphitheater, ninja course and mountain bike course, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
Some context
The parkland dedication was put forward at a June 16 City Council meeting but later pulled from the agenda and tabled for council’s July meeting.
The park is part of the city’s $22 million 2024 parks bond, which includes five city park projects.
The bond provides $1.99 million for improvements specifically to Butler Park, according to city documents.
What’s next?
The Butler Park project will go out for bid over this summer and will be presented to City Council as early as September. Construction would then likely begin between October and November and last for about a year, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
Updated timelines may be provided at council’s July meeting, Wise said.
