The city of Bee Cave shared updates on timelines and cost estimates for development of a new city library building at a June 25 City Council meeting.

The overview

An agreement was amended with Lake Flato Architects at the meeting for design of the new library building, reflecting a location change from the city’s Revival Tract to the city’s Skaggs Tract.

The amendment came with updated cost estimates and a new timeline for library completion. Previously, the design fee for the library was $3.04 million on the city-owned Revival site, but updated costs for the Skaggs site show a total fee of $2.38 million, according to city documents.

In terms of timeline for the project, concept design and cost estimates are predicted to arrive between September and November, according to city documents.

Construction documents will be provided between May and September 2026, and bidding on the project will begin in September to November of 2026.

Some context

The city’s Capital Improvement Plan subcommittee meets regularly to discuss the city’s public safety building, library and Central Park, and most recently convened June 17, City Manager Julie Oakley said.

The updated timeline and cost estimates for the library, discussed at that meeting, were described as “conservative” by Oakley.

“We will do everything we can to under-promise and over-deliver on budget and schedule [for the library],” Oakley said.

What else?

Similar to the city’s public safety building, the new library will need to be put to a public vote before construction can begin, according to the voter-approved Proposition G passed last November.

City officials said their goal is to put the library on the ballot in November, with an informational town hall on the project held sometime in September.
