The month of March brought with it several updates for residents of the Lake Travis and Westlake areas, from new businesses to revived developments.

Pecan Street Festival moving to Bee Cave this spring

Organizers of the Pecan Street Festival announced in late March plans to relocate its May festivities to the Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave.

The Pecan Street Festival is an arts celebration featuring over a hundred local and national artists, and is typically held in May and September annually on Sixth Street in Austin.

The festival will take place on May 3 from 11 a.m-10 p.m, and May 4 from 11 a.m-8 p.m., including 30 food vendors, kid-friendly activities like petting zoos and face painting, and a range of performances by Austin musicians, according to its website. Over 400,000 attendees visit the festival each year, according to the festival’s website.

West Austin Business Park continues construction; Bee Cave updates lawsuit

Following a January ruling on Bee Cave’s injunction hearing against Velocis, construction crews have been given the go-ahead to continue work on the West Austin Business Park while the city of Bee Cave updates its lawsuit against developers and prepares for a full jury trial in August.

Development of the business park otherwise continues to move forward, a spokesperson for Velocis said. Construction work is expected to reach substantial completion in March, and tenants will be able to move in soon after.


A full jury trial will take place Aug. 18 to address the permanent injunctive relief that Bee Cave is seeking against developers.

Bee Cave City Council opposes new resort by Violet Crown developers

A new luxury hotel and residential resort development just east of Bee Cave’s city limits, in the Barton Creek Habitat Preserve, is receiving opposition from city officials due to concerns regarding the development’s environmental impact.


The White Rocks development is a proposed 70-acre resort featuring a 10,000 seat amphitheater between Spanish Oaks Golf Club and Barton Creek Country Club. Plans for the new resort include 600 residential units and a 150-room luxury hotel, according to a White Rocks digital brochure.

The White Rocks development is currently seeking permitting from the TCEQ to authorize a new wastewater treatment facility. A meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Juniper Ballroom at Hotel Viata, located in West Lake Hills at 320 S. Capital of Texas Hwy., on April 8 to address the request.

Lake Travis ISD begins accepting job applicants for superintendent search

Interested candidates may now apply to become the new superintendent of Lake Travis ISD.


Executive search firm JG Consulting posted the job application to its website March 27 after meeting with the board of trustees at a March 26 meeting.

The district is looking for a new leader following the resignation of former Superintendent Paul Norton, who was placed on a paid administrative leave by the board in late December.

The board will review the candidates in closed session April 15 followed by two rounds of interviews from mid-to-late April, according to the job description. The district is expected to name a lone finalist by May 1 ahead of a desired start date of May 21.

More learning studios, blending traditions: Catch up on the latest Eanes ISD elementary updates

More details are being ironed out ahead of the Barton Creek Elementary and Valley View Elementary campus blend in the 2025-26 school year.

District officials provided the board of trustees with updates on the placement of portable learning studios for the Child Development Center, efforts to create a blended campus culture and upcoming events during the March 25 board meeting.

Barton Creek's Child Development Center is set to be relocated in order to make space for the anticipated enrollment increase on the main campus. Staff is also working to prepare a request for proposal for a contractor to place the portables on site, said Miguel Garcia III, executive director of facilities, planning and construction.
