The Friends of the Spicewood Community Library group is seeking donations from residents and area businesses to cover the cost of a new building, according to a news release.

In a nutshell

With an estimated construction cost of approximately $2 million, donations from the community are needed to facilitate the forward motion of the project, according to the news release.

Conceptual floor plans and elevations, which can be found on the library’s website, have been developed, and bidding for construction is underway. Donations from residents and businesses will help to erect the new facility.

Why it matters

The Spicewood Community Library opened in 2007 to serve local residents, but the community has continued to grow from 2,400 residents in 2007 to more than 13,000 in February 2024. The area is anticipated to continue to grow with a projected population of 15,000 by 2028, according to the news release.

The new library building will aid in helping to serve the increasing population. A 2022 survey conducted by the Spicewood Community Library found patrons wanted expansion of community programs for all ages, upgraded technology, high-speed internet access, and a more modern and usable facility, according to the news release.

Quote of note

“The Spicewood area needs an updated facility to provide adequate library services” said Amanda Rose, director of the Marble Falls Library and manager of Spicewood Community Library.
