Bee Cave City Council at a meeting Aug. 8 approved an ordinance setting the maximum speed limit for Vail Divide Drive at 40 mph.

The gist

Starting at the southern intersection of Hwy. 71 and Vail Divide Drive and continuing to the road’s intersection with Hamilton Pool Road, the maximum speed limit will now be 40 mph for both northbound and southbound traffic, according to city documents.

Bee Cave City Council also established a portion of Vail Divide Drive as a school speed zone with a maximum speed limit of 25 mph. The school speed zone starts 500 feet north of Bee Cave Middle School and continues 500 feet south of the school, according to city documents.

The 25 mph speed limit will be in effect when either the lights are flashing to indicate a school zone speed limit or during designated times listed on the sign.

The background

In June, Bee Cave City Council annexed a portion of Vail Divide Drive between Los Flores Lane and Hamilton Pool Road. At that time, council considered taking future action to annex the remainder of the roadway as well as setting maximum speed limits and establishing school zones.
