On April 12, residents of West Lake Hills will be given the opportunity to volunteer for their community by removing litter, trimming brush and cleaning up deadwood.
The overview
Those interested in participating can register to volunteer on the Westlake Chamber of Commerce’s website. Positions are limited and high school students will receive community credit for volunteering.
Volunteers will meet in the Westlake Chamber of Commerce parking lot at 101 Westlake Drive at 8:30 a.m to begin the day with coffee, food and education on Firewise practices, according to a news release shared by the chamber.
After coffee is over, attendees will be divided into three groups to begin volunteer work.
Firewise USA is a national program hosted by the National Fire Protection Association, designed to help communities reduce wildfire risk through various strategies including environmental cleanup.
The details
Volunteers are advised to wear sturdy shoes and breathable clothing, and to apply sunscreen and bug spray before arriving. Additionally, the chamber recommends bringing reusable water bottles and clippers or loppers if volunteers already own them.
Shirts and safety vests will be provided by the chamber, as well as grabbers and trash bags.
What else?
After cleanup is over, volunteers will be invited to gather at Vaquero Taco for lunch and socializing, according to the news release.
