Eanes ISD's preliminary enrollment for the 2025-26 school year is still slightly below 2024-25's numbers, but as of Aug. 5, was slightly above projections made earlier this summer.

Molly May and Chad Burnett with the curriculum, instruction and assessment department presented the data to the board of trustees during the Aug. 5 board meeting.

Some context

The preliminary enrollment numbers reflect students who are officially enrolled with completed paperwork, Burnett said.

As of Aug. 5, there were 64 students still in New Student Online Enrollment status, or NSOE, waiting to be processed, including 23 elementary students, nine middle school students and 32 high school students.

Some may not meet residency requirements or may choose to not complete the process, while others are pending due to missing paperwork.

Breaking it down

In June, district officials projected an overall lower enrollment for the 2025-26 school year. However, EISD has since enrolled an additional 94 elementary students, 74 middle school students and 56 high school students as of Aug. 5.

Also of note

Following the Barton Creek Elementary and Valley View Elementary blend, Barton Creek is slated to have 676 students, up from the goal of having around 650 students. The other four elementary schools will have below 600 students.

“The relief valve there was to rezone and put some people in Forest Trail, which we did, and now Forest Trail is pretty full,” trustee James Spradley said.

If EISD continues to have declining enrollment overall, class sections at Barton Creek are expected to lessen, Burnett said.

"[For] the next two years we're rolling off really large classes at Barton Creek," Burnett said. "... We could be 100, 150 [students] down in the next three years from where we are now."

The district also aims to have a 22-student-to-1-teacher ratio in K-4 classrooms, May said. Currently, the only section above this ratio is a third grade classroom at Eanes Elementary with 23 students.

While this ratio does not apply to fifth grade, May said, Cedar Creek Elementary fifth grade sections are also slightly higher with 23 to 24 students.

What’s new?

Since the June report, officials have:
  • Added kindergarten sections at Cedar Creek and Eanes
  • Collapsed a fifth grade section at Cedar Creek to balance out the sections
  • Moved out-of-district kindergarteners from Forest Trail and Cedar Creek to Eanes
