The Eanes ISD board of trustees named Tom Trigg as the district's interim superintendent during a special meeting July 24.

Some context

Current superintendent Jeff Arnett announced June 16 that he would be retiring from his role effective July 31 after serving in EISD for nine years and as superintendent for three.

The board later met in closed session June 17 to begin the search process to find an interim superintendent.

The details

Trigg has served in education roles for 49 years, including as high school mathematics teacher and coach, high school principal, assistant/deputy superintendent, superintendent of Blue Valley USD 229 in Kansas and most recently as superintendent of Highland Park ISD in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Trigg has received the Mike Kneale Education Excellence in Leadership Award, was one of Education Week's Leaders to Learn From in 2015, Kansas Superintendent of the Year in 2011 and was one of four finalists for National Superintendent of the Year in 2011.

Quote of note

"When we started this process, we were focused on finding someone who could engage with our community; someone who could support our amazing cabinet and staff; someone who could continue the exemplary educational opportunities that Eanes provides to our students; and someone who could kind of tackle some of the difficult things that we have in front of us," trustee Laura Clark said. "I'm confident that [Trigg is] that person."

Looking ahead

The board has issued a request for qualifications, or RFQ, to an executive search firm to lead the process in finding a permanent superintendent. The board is slated to vote on hiring a firm in August, and the search process will include community input.

Once a lone superintendent finalist is selected, the board must wait 21 days before officially hiring the finalist, per state law.
