Design work is underway for Lake Travis ISD’s ninth elementary school after the district purchased land for the new campus.

Current situation

On Sept. 11, Lake Travis ISD purchased almost 23 acres off Hamilton Pool Road for $9 million as the new site for its ninth elementary school.

Elementary School No. 9 is expected to open for the 2026-27 school year and will cost $55 million, said Marco Alvarado, LTISD executive director of communications and community relations. Voters approved funding for the campus along with Elementary School No. 8 in the district's 2022 bond election.

Pfluger Architects are currently working on the new school’s design, Alvarado said. While West Cypress Hills has been the district’s standard elementary campus design since 2014, he said the design of Elementary School No. 9 will be unique due to the topography of the land.

Quote of note

“As with all properties in the Texas Hill Country, there are challenges with the topography of the site,” Alvarado said. “Pfluger Architects are doing an excellent job of adapting the new elementary school design to the slope of the site.”

In case you missed it

The district has indefinitely postponed building Elementary School No. 8, which was scheduled to open August 2024, as the city of Lakeway denied the district’s development request in February. While discussions about the site with the city have been ongoing, district officials said there have been no updates.

Stay tuned

The district will create new attendance zones closer to the school’s opening in 2026 with the most current enrollment data, Alvarado said. Elementary school enrollment was projected to increase by over 800 students from 2022 to 2026, according to a 2021-22 demographic study.
