Following the resolution of a legal battle to get incumbent Linda Anthony on the ballot, West Lake Hills residents must vote for mayor in a separate election held at city hall, according to the city.
Although the contested race is still on, the West Lake Hills mayoral election will not appear on the Travis County ballot. Likewise, only the mayoral race will appear on the West Lake Hills ballot. Residents wishing to vote for mayor along with other positions, such as school board candidates, must visit both the West Lake Hills polling station at city hall and a polling station held by Travis County.
Anthony will be up against attorney Jeff Taylor in the city's first contested election since 2015, when Anthony was appointed to the position. Taylor challenged Anthony’s application after the filing deadline for not listing an occupation, and the city secretary rejected Anthony’s application on March 2. Anthony took to the Texas legal system shortly after, and the Texas Supreme Court ruled in Anthony’s favor, directing the city secretary to put Anthony on the ballot, according to Texas Supreme Court documents.
The last day to apply for a ballot by mail is April 26. Early voting will run at both West Lake Hills City Hall and Travis County polling stations from April 25-May 3, and election day is May 7.
