Westlake Auto Care and Westlake Grocery, which have been in operation within West Lake Hills for more than 50 years, were granted permanent development zoning Wednesday by West Lake Hills City Council. Because residents were hesitant to let a business open on Redbud Trail when the development was first proposed, the original property agreement with the city required the business owner to renew the zoning every few years, City Administrator Robert Wood said. “The store has been in existence for many years, and the main purpose of these two services is to be there to help the community of West Lake Hills,” said Mehdi Ali, the grocery store’s current tenant. “Now, 50-something years later, the goal is still the same.” Hamid Miri Current property owner Hamid Miri purchased the longtime West Lake Hills businesses in 2006.[/caption] City Planner Ashby Grundman said to get approval for the permanent zoning, owner Hamid Miri agreed to:
  • build a new 15-foot tall canopy to replace the current, damaged one;
  • bring all lighting on the property into conformance with the city’s outdoor lighting code within six months;
  • install a fence to improve safety between the property and adjacent creek; and
  • plant native vegetation in select locations on the property.
“I think this is going to look a lot better than what’s there now,” Mayor Linda Anthony said. “Everybody is really happy you are staying. You provide an invaluable service which I availed myself of numerous times and I hope that you will thrive.” Westlake Auto Care and Westlake Grocery at located at 98 Redbud Trail and 96 Redbud Trail, respectively.
