Since July 2014, Oasis Texas Brewing has offered Lake Travis residents and visitors alike an approachable lakeside menu featuring burgers, wings and a wide array of session beers–or low alcohol content beers–all developed and sold in-house.

Started by a private group of investors from both Austin and Houston, the business first operated strictly out of the Oasis restaurant, before later opening its own indoor space and patio bar on the third floor of the Oasis Texas Lakeside Outdoor Mall. The business also operates out of two other locations—The Barrel Room and Taproom—in the same complex.

On the menu

Oasis offers a wide range of session beers, which General Manager Sean Bennett describes as “light and drinkable.” As opposed to heavier IPAs, these drinks are typically 5% alcohol or less, Bennett said.

All beers at Oasis Texas Brewing are brewed onsite, and the business often works with a brewer named Duncan McClain, who enjoys experimenting and creating unique options, Bennett said. One item currently on the menu developed by McClain is a chai porter, and fruit-flavored beers have previously been featured as well.

Though the drink menu changes, four core beers are offered year-round, Bennett said. These include the business’ Metamodern Session IPA, London Homesick, Slow Ride Pale Ale, and Luchesa Lager. The London Homesick was previously a gold medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival.

As for the food menu, Oasis focuses on local and ethically-sourced ingredients, Bennett said. The company partners with local farm Dean and Peeler to serve up premium ground beef burgers, wings, and patty melts, all made from scratch in-house.

For those looking for liquor-based drinks, the patio bar features the business’ Perfect Margarita, as well as a host of other Texas-inspired cocktails like the Texas Orange Spritz and Tequila Old Fashioned.

What else?

The business also owns a barcade called The Barrel Room. Located right across from Oasis Texas Brewing, this space features ’80s retro arcade games, shuffleboard, pool tables, and basketball games, as well as an extensive drink menu.

“We have different venues, I think that definitely makes us unique out on the lake,” Bennett said. “If you want to sit back and relax and enjoy the patio or sit by the fire pit out on the third floor, you can do that. If you have kids or you’re looking for something to do on a Friday or Saturday night as a couple, we have the barcade.”

In addition to the barcade, Oasis operates The Taproom—a small venue just next door, which features a menu of craft beers.

Bennett explained that, throughout its venues, Oasis Texas Brewing has a laid back atmosphere which has allowed the business to retain many of its employees for a considerable time.

“We have a really good culture, most of our employees have been here 4+ years, some of them almost 10 years,” Bennett said. “We’re a pretty low-key, non-corporate place to work and people seem to like that and get along really well.”

In terms of what he enjoys most about working at Oasis Texas Brewing, Bennett points to the location.

“There’s a beautiful sunset every single day. It’s not bad to go to work overlooking Lake Travis,” Bennett said. “It’s beautiful, it never gets old.”

What’s next?

The business plans to open a new space within the Oasis complex called Sometimes Island Tiki and Beer —a tiki bar located right across from The Barrel Room on the second floor, which is expected to open in April.
