The northbound and southbound main lanes of I-35 as well as the Williams Drive bridge will be closed overnight March 8 and 9 as the Texas Department of Transportation works to set beams for the reconstructed bridge.

The closures—which are part of TxDOT's project to install a $61.7 million diverging diamond intersection, or DDI, at Williams Drive—will take place from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. both evenings, according to a March 7 press release from TxDOT.

The main lane closures will span from Lakeway Drive to Hwy. 29. Northbound through traffic will be detoured onto the frontage road using the Williams Drive exit and will re-enter the highway north of Northwest Boulevard. Similarly, southbound traffic will detour at Williams Drive and re-enter using the Hwy. 29 ramp.

Traffic going east on Williams Drive will be detoured to the southbound I-35 frontage road where they will make a U-turn at Hwy. 29. Similarly, westbound traffic on Williams Drive will use the northbound I-35 frontage road and make a left turn at Lakeway Drive.

This is the second series of closures due to the Williams Drive DDI project. In January, TxDOT closed I-35 main lanes and the Williams Drive bridge in order to demolish and remove a portion of the bridge.

The DDI is expected to be complete in late 2023.
