2017-03-29The Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed that two bats found in Georgetown recently tested positive for rabies.

Georgetown Animal Services collected one bat March 23 at Pickett Elementary School. Another rabies-positive bat was collected from a nearby home March 19.

The Georgetown Police Department said animal control officers do not believe people or pets have been exposed to rabies. However, the department said residents who encounter bats in or near their homes should refrain from touching them and call 512-930-3510.

The Georgetown Animal Shelter, located at 110 W.L. Walden Drive, is hosting a low-cost rabies vaccine clinic for pets from 8:30-11 a.m. on May 20. For more information, contact the shelter at 512-930-3592.
