City of Georgetown facilities will be closed to the public Jan. 21 in anticipation of winter weather.

What you need to know

According to a Jan. 20 news release, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning effective until 6 p.m. Jan. 21. The warning states heavy mixed precipitation of snow, sleet and ice accumulations can be expected along the I-35 corridor.

Jan. 21 morning and evening commutes could be impacted by the hazardous conditions, as refreezing is expected Tuesday evening, according to the NWS.

Georgetown residents are encouraged to avoid traveling, if possible, and remain cautious if driving. Street crews will be treating roads and bridges throughout the city, per the news release.


Officials with Texas Disposal Systems plan to collect trash or recycling on Jan. 21, and residents with a Tuesday route can place carts outside by 7 a.m., per the release. As TDS could run late or delay routes until Jan. 22, residents can leave carts at the curb until trash or recycling is collected.

  • GoGeo paratransit services
  • Grace Heritage Center, 817 S. Main St.
  • Parks & Recreation Administration, 1101 N. College St.
  • The Planning Department, 809 Martin Luther King, Jr. St.
  • The Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. Eighth St.
  • The Public Safety Operations and Training Center, Police Records and Fire Support Services offices, 3500 DB Wood Road
  • The Georgetown Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave.
  • The Georgetown Tennis Center, 400 Serenada Drive
  • The Georgetown Visitors Center, 103 W. Seventh St.
The Georgetown Executive Airport and Georgetown transfer station will remain open on Jan. 21, per the release.

Severe weather could cause electrical outages. Georgetown electric customers experiencing an outage can text STATUS to 512-930-8400, and Georgetown water customers should call 512-930-3640 and press 1 to report a water outage. City electric crews are prepared to respond to outages and restore power, per the release.
