Lake Travis ISD places Superintendent Paul Norton on paid leave, launches investigation
The Lake Travis ISD board of trustees voted to place Superintendent Paul Norton on paid administrative leave effective immediately at a Dec. 17 special meeting.
The board appointed Pam Sanchez, LTISD assistant superintendent for business services, as acting superintendent in Norton’s place.

Outback Steakhouse now open in Round Rock after relocating
Outback Steakhouse opened the doors of its new location after relocating in Round Rock Dec. 10.
The Australian-themed restaurant features a menu of steaks, including filets, sirloins, ribeyes, New York strips and porterhouses.

Round Rock council to move on Rock’N River expansion
Round Rock City Council will vote to amend the maximum price for the Rock’N River water park expansion at its meeting Dec. 19. The $19.3 million expansion is a part of the bigger Old Settlers Park buildout project.

Wastewater runoff drives algal blooms in San Gabriel
When Dave Bunnell bought his Georgetown home in 2017, he envisioned his seven grandchildren swimming, tubing and fishing in the South Fork San Gabriel River behind his property for years to come.
By spring 2018, Bunnell and his wife noticed algae had formed in the once-pristine river, which smelled like “rotting garbage” in the heat.
The presence of algae has been traced back to high phosphorus levels found in the effluent, or treated wastewater, discharged from Liberty Hill’s wastewater plant. After years of ongoing litigation, the TCEQ is now requiring Liberty Hill to look at improving the plant.

Officials celebrate new bypass opening in east Georgetown
Georgetown commuters have a new way to reach Hwy. 29, as the Corridor C-Sam Houston Avenue road project is complete.
The bypass opened to traffic on Dec. 20, according to a news release.
