Georgetown Fire Chief John Sullivan presented City Council with the 2023 emergency services update at a Feb. 13 meeting, showing an increase in overdoses and homelessness incidents in the city last year.

Sullivan said overdose trends in Georgetown have increased 30% since 2022, seeing 163 overdoses in 2023. He said 32% of those overdoses occurred in individuals in their 30s.

Georgetown began tracking their homelessness response in 2021, Sullivan said, and the city is seeing the numbers trend higher.

The city saw 60 homelessness incidents in 2022, increasing to 283 incidents in 2023.
