Georgetown is offering limited-time discounts for Lyft users in the city in order to analyze ridership patterns, the city announced Wednesday.

The city and the ride-hailing company are partnering on the initiative for Lyft rides that start within Georgetown city limits.

For eligible rides, a Lyft passenger will pay the first $2 of a ride’s fare. Georgetown will then cover up to $10 of the total fare amount, with the passenger paying any additional cost. The program allows passengers to receive discounts on up to 10 rides.

Ridership data collected and provided to the city will not include passengers’ names, addresses or credit card information, according to the city.

For those who have never used Lyft, discounts can be accessed by downloading Lyft’s app on an iPhone or Android-based smartphone and creating an account, which requires users’ credit card information.

Users need to enter the promo code “GTOWNTX18” in the app before requesting rides to receive discounts.

Users also need to have their Lyft accounts set to “personal” mode for the promo code to work.

The city has $17,500 budgeted to cover the cost of ride discounts.
