Here's what you need to know from Tuesday night's Georgetown City Council meeting: Future aquatic center A new natatorium may be in the works for Georgetown ISD swimmers and divers. David Biesheuvel, GISD Executive Director of Facilities and Construction, told city council that there has been interest in an aquatic center for the school since the 2015 bond election. Biesheuvel proposed a joint study to determine if partnership for expanding the existing recreation center, located at 1003 N. Austin Ave., would be a viable option for growing programs in both GISD and the city. The study would look at the needs of both the school district and current and future needs of the city, as well as proposing the design and cost of the project. Biesheuvel said he expects the study to take 4 to 6 months and cost $40,000, which would be split between GISD and the city. The council agreed to move forward with the study and more information will be presented at future meetings. Concerns over Berry Springs Park The council voted 7-0 on the first reading to rezone more than 300 acres located in the David Right Survey near Airport Road and Berry Creek. The new zoning would make the land a planned unit development district called Homestead at Berry Creek. According to the city, the PUD district would include single and multifamily homes, as well as commercial sites, public trails and a possible future school site. The proposed PUD district is a part of a larger municipal utility district that includes future plans to extend a wastewater line through Berry Springs Park and several citizens shared their concerns about the potential wastewater line during the meeting. More information concerning the MUD and wastewater line will take place at future meetings.
