Williamson County on Thursday celebrated the groundbreaking of its new 25,000-square-foot sheriff's officer training center.

Specialty training rooms in the new facility will also provide:

  • classroom officer training

  • defensive tactics

  • driving simulations

  • officer fitness

Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said the center will allow for the corrections department and law enforcement to be under the same roof.

"It makes for a better streamline of county resources," Chody said. "Williamson County is honored and proud to see this project go up and to [eventually] be a host to other law enforcement from around the nation."

The project was designed by Brinkley Sargent Wiginton, and American Constructors was awarded the construction contract for a guaranteed maximum price of $7,994,640.

Work is expected to be complete by winter 2017.
