The catalyst
She decided to fill the gap by opening up her first venue in Georgetown in 2013, The Union on Eighth.
“It's just creating something that I saw was lacking in the industry,” Bohls said.
Bohls later decided to stop hosting events and open the venue to the public as a wine bar called Union Merchant.
Diving in deeper
Now, Bohls owns the Wish Well House in downtown Georgetown where she rents the space out for wedding and anniversary celebrations. She opened the venue in 2021.
“When this property came up for sale, [I] was like, ‘This is perfect,’” Bohls said. “It's a historic house. It has our personality [and] that character in it, but we can modernize it.”
Bohls describes Wish Well House as filled with natural light and tall ceilings, with a backyard feel, and a combination of historic and modern details. The space features a cocktail lounge, a main hall, an indoor and outdoor bar, a ceremony courtyard, two private suites, a shared restroom for guests, and additional parking coming soon.
The house also comes furnished with custom wood tables for dining, and lounge seating in the cocktail area.
More details
Some of Bohls’ other favorite details are the private suites upstairs, the large doors that open into the courtyard and all of the varying photo opportunities on the property.
“Wish Well House is very unique in that it has a ton of different textures throughout the property, like the shingles on the building that are diamond shaped and then the tile on the floor.”
The celebration
Along with renting the space, Wish Well House also offers wedding planning services run by Maggie Eakins, manager and event coordinator.
“I love the couples,” Eakins said. “It's really fun for me to meet them at the tour, and then throughout the planning process and then on the day of it's like, ‘Oh my gosh, it's finally your day.’”
Wish Well House hosts between 80-100 weddings per year, Bohls said, and with the versatility of the space, no two events are the same. The venue is now booking dates in 2026.
“We'll make it easy [and] stress free,” Eakins said. “We want it to be fun.”
