Leander’s fourth fire station began operating in August, and representatives with the city say its location will serve the northeast portion of the city, including the expanding corridor along Ronald Reagan Boulevard.
Fire Station No. 4 currently houses one crew and one fire engine, which began responding to calls Aug. 22. According to a press release from the city, the 8,854-square-foot facility will be able to hold two firefighter crews and four fire service vehicles.
The fire station’s location will help improve the city’s overall fire protection capabilities and shorten emergency response times along the Ronald Reagan corridor, according to the release.
The Leander Fire Department will host a grand opening celebration for the new station Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon at the station's location at 10964 E. Crystal Falls Parkway, between Toll 183A and Ronald Reagan Boulevard.
The city’s central fire station, Fire Station 1, was the first dedicated fire station for the city of Leander. The station was built in 2001 in the structure next to Pat Bryson Hall although construction is underway for Fire Station No. 1 to be relocated to 460 W. San Gabriel Parkway. The current fire station and Leander’s City Council chambers will be repurposed as new city offices to accommodate staff.
Plans are also in the works for Fire Station No. 5, which will be located in the Travisso neighborhood, according to the release.
