After the removal of a Confederate monument prompted an outpouring of far-right and white supremacist protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, some Austinites have reignited efforts to dismantle surviving Confederate symbols. Most recently, The University of Texas at Austin announced late Sunday evening that it would remove four Confederate statues — including one of Robert E. Lee — from its campus immediately. Meanwhile, a Dixie Freedom Rally has been planned for late September by the Texas Confederate Militia in Austin.
