A new Mexican restaurant by the founder of Vox Table is coming to Lamar Union. Located caddy-corner to Vox Table off South Lamar Blvd., general manager Brendon Wash said he anticipates opening El Burro Mexican Restaurant and Bar Sept. 20. He said it will serve authentic Mexican dishes with a Tex-Mex touch, designed by Joe Anguiano, the executive chef at Vox Table. Calling it a "very Austin restaurant," Wash said El Burro will eventually "aggressively expand" across Texas, beginning with a location in North Austin following the opening of the Lamar Union location. He said El Burro will appeal to the masses, with a more casual feel than Vox Table, which markets as an upscale restaurant. Menu items include foie gras tacos and lobster tail tacos. El Burro will initially be open for dinner only, with eventual plans to open for brunch on the weekends and breakfast and lunch every day. Wash said the Mexican restaurant will feature an eclectic design with a dog-friendly patio and a center bar. It will also offer the service Nowait, a mobile app that lets you reserve a spot in line remotely and get notified when your table is ready.
