A city contractor is beginning work tonight to replace more than 800 linear-feet of sagging wastewater lines in the two blocks adjacent to Austin City Hall.

Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, the work will cause traffic to be reduced to one main lane on Colorado Street between Second and Cesar Chavez streets in addition to westbound Cesar Chavez from Colorado to Lavaca Street.

The initial phase of the work is expected to wrap up on Sept. 23. The contractor will begin at the intersection of Colorado and Cesar Chavez and move westward toward Lavaca along Cesar Chavez.

The Austin Public Works Department will notify motorists when traffic patterns are expected to shift.

The $634,220 project is expected to be completed in February.
