Herman started Harper Sage nearly seven years ago from her apartment in Brooklyn, New York. The brand grew to sell dresses, jumpsuits, accessories, swimwear, tops and pants. Though, for Herman, it was more than a clothing company, it was a space for joy, creativity and more to coexist, she explained in the Instagram post.
From New York to Austin, Harper Sage’s first brick-and-mortar store opened on Burnet Road in March 2025, selling ethically-sourced, small-batch pieces made in women-owned factories, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
The cause
The decision to cease operations was made after increased difficulties arose with “production costs, tariffs, supply chain disruptions, operational overhead and the pressure of operating a highly lean founder-led brand,” Herman said online.
