Modern Bar
Urbanspace Hospitality has debuted a new cocktail destination in the Rainey Street District. The bar is located on the first floor of The Modern Austin Residences.
Akiba Texas
The new Austin toy store opened in February selling blind boxes, trinkets, accessories and more, according to a representative from Giant Noise. The store concept is owned by the creators of Toy Joy and Yummi Joy, according to a press release.
Orange Pocket
The store opened in the west campus on Valentine’s Day stocked with blind boxes, beauty products and collectibles. The grand opening featured free tote bags for the first 200 customers, as well as Sonny Angel and Smiski giveaways, according to its Instagram.

Paramount Theatre
Paramount Theatre will temporarily close, beginning mid-June, for its first major renovation in over half a century, according to a news release. The restoration is expected to take 8-9 months and is supported by the Shine On capital campaign.
Red River Cultural District
The district announced its five-year strategic plan for preservation and evolution April 14, following its first economic impact report. The strategic plan details exterior upgrades to existing venues, new signage, solar-powered lighting, public murals and more, according to a press conference.
2nd Street District
This year marks the district’s 20th anniversary in downtown Austin, bringing together local retailers, dining, living, entertainment and continued growth. The district was created in 2006 to create a lively, walkable neighborhood downtown, according to a news release.
What’s next—permits filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration
Texas Realtors
A full remodel of the existing 23,847-square-foot building’s second floor will begin in late spring, along with the addition of a second-floor terrace, according to a permit filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration. The project is estimated to cost $9 million and run from May 1-Jan. 31, 2027.
Closings
Austin Rocks
After 12 years of business in Austin, the apparel and gifts store announced its closure on Instagram. Austin Rocks officially closed its doors in late January before being converted into a new toy and blind box store.
