Starting April 2, the speed limit on a section of Hero Way between CR 269 and Ronald W. Reagan Boulevard will be reduced to 30 mph from 45 mph.

This permanent change is caused by increased traffic on the narrow road with no shoulders and impaired sight distances, according to city of Leander spokesperson Mike Neu. The change will reduce safety risks for the road's pedestrians and bicyclists.

New speed limit signs will be placed April 1, and temporary message boards will be placed on both ends of the speed limit change area to inform drivers, according to Neu.

In January, the speed limit on a 1-mile stretch of Ronald Reagan Boulevard was reduced from 65 mph to 50 mph, which is located near the new speed limit change on Hero.
