Austin Diagnostic Clinic

Austin Diagnostic Clinic, a multispecialty healthcare provider, opened March 3 in Leander, making it the first new office in six years.

Celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, Austin Diagnostic Clinic has 10 locations in Central Texas, including in Leander, Cedar Park, Georgetown and Round Rock. Founder Henry Renfert had a dream of having the Mayo Clinic of the South, CEO Bob Bush said.

At ADC in Leander, Dr. Paul Carothers is seeing patients in family medicine, and Dr. Jaclyn Marroquin is seeing patients for pediatrics. There are plans, however, for additional specialities at the Leander clinic location.

“Our goal here in Leander is endocrinology, rheumatology, gastroenterology,” Bush said. “Those specialities are not in this marketplace at the present time.”

ADC in Leander is in the same building as Austin Heart, a cardiac and vascular medical provider, and more specialities are anticipated.

“We’re excited about being in Leander,” Bush said. “We’re bringing something to Leander that is good for the community that people don’t have to drive from home to be able to get quality healthcare.”

Unity Clinic of Texas

Construction on Unity Clinic of Texas, a nonprofit organization, is underway in Leander and anticipated to open in the fall.

Unity Clinic of Texas provides free medical care to low-income residents of Williamson County and surrounding areas who are uninsured or underinsured. Examples of conditions the clinic treats include hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, ear infections and more. Physician consultations and lab services are free or charge; however, medicine will be the patient’s responsibility, board member Lakshmi Atkuri said.

The clinic will have a core group of six physicians on a rotating schedule. It is also a pool of several physicians ready to volunteer, Atkuri said. To keep costs low, all employees and doctors at Unity Clinic of Texas are volunteers.

For now, the clinic will only be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Later, the clinic will expand its opening hours on Wednesday evenings from 6-9 p.m.

The Leander office is the first and only location of Unity Clinic of Texas. There are volunteer clinics in Austin and Round Rock, Atkuri said, but none in Leander.

“People have been very helpful to donating to the cause knowing that it would make a difference to the health of so many uninsured,” she said.
