Ying Yang said she modeled in China for more than decade, got married and started a family before realizing she was not happy.

She started teaching yoga nonstop at several gyms in Cedar Park and discovered her passion for it, so she got “all her pennies together to start her dream.” In 2016, she opened Ying Yoga Studio.

In June 2021, Yang was hit while riding her motorcycle. She spent more than a year in the hospital and underwent more than 28 surgeries on her left leg. She said yoga helped her recover.

“I think if I didn’t do yoga I probably [would have broken] more of my spine,” she said.

At Ying Yoga Studio, there are no mirrors, which allows clients to focus their attention inward and be present, Yang said.

With a mission to make people of “all religions, all parties, all colors, all sexual identities feel accepted,” Yang believes clients enjoy being themselves at her studio.

Yang said she pays attention to her clients while teaching, because people want to be noticed.

“People want to be seen; they want to be felt; and they want to be touched—they want to be heard,” she said. “A human needs a human, otherwise we wouldn’t be that powerful.” For the past three years, Ying Yoga Studio has provided yoga classes for special education students in Leander ISD. As another way to give back to the community, Yang offers free yoga for foster children and anyone struggling financially.

“We want to help; we are here,” Yang said. “I’m feeling like I’m very lucky; I want to give.”

With a desire to teach yoga online while she stays in China for long periods of time, Yang said she wants the studio to be able to operate without her.

Yang wants to remind the community to carry on.

“Life is like the weather—it has rainy days, it has snowy days—you have to just carry on,” she said. “I want people to remember to be themselves—everything will be fine.”
