Construction on a long-term project to expand New Hope drive from Blockhouse Drive to CR 180 and add an innovative intersection at 138A Toll began Sept. 16.
What to expect
Once fully completed, the existing four lanes will be expanded to six lanes along this stretch of the road. Additionally, the innovative intersection, which will feature a design similar to the one at Whitestone Boulevard, will feature a design similar to the one at Whitestone Boulevard and Parmer Lane, is intended to limit travel delays and increase room for vehicles, according to a city news release.
To kick off the project, the medians along New Hope Drive will be removed and replaced with asphalt. Drivers can expect periodic lane closures that will result in one lane in each direction. This first phase of the project began Sept. 16 and is slated to last three weeks, according to the release.
Upon the removal of the medians, detours will be constructed to keep two lanes in each direction as drainage pipes are placed beneath the road.
The background
In July, the city announced the innovative intersection design project as a means of addressing traffic increases in light of coming developments along New Hope Drive, such as CedarView, the housing development NFM and Scheels.
After the plan's initial conception it required approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The design for the road updates received $2.46 million in funding from Cedar Park's 2022 transportation bond, according to the city's website.
What else?
The project is anticipated to take two and a half years to complete, according to the news release. Residents are encouraged to utilize alternate routes and check the City Projects website for any updates.
