Leander ISD families driving to and from school as well as other motorists may notice two new traffic signals near three Cedar Park campuses.

What you need to know

The signals came online Aug. 12 at the intersections of Park Street and Gupton Way Drive, and Vista Ridge Boulevard and Golden Arrow Avenue, which are situated near Reagan Elementary School, Henry Middle School and Vista Ridge High School.

The new signals aim to improve pedestrian safety and the flow of traffic near the three schools, according to city documents.

In addition to the traffic lights, a mid-block crosswalk—which includes flashing lights to alert drivers of pedestrians—near Reagan Elementary was completed Aug. 13 and is fully operational, a city representative said.

A city representative said the two lights cost the city $600,000 each, and the mid-block crossing was $190,000.

What else?

During a May meeting, Cedar Park City Council approved a change in an existing contract to cover the installation of four new traffic signals. The contract included the two lights mentioned above as well as signals at the intersections of Bell Boulevard and Aster Street, and Vista Ridge Boulevard and Colonial Parkway.

Officials were looking to finish construction on the signals near campuses before school begins, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

However, a city representative said the stop signs at the Colonial Parkway and Vista Ridge Boulevard intersection have not yet been removed. This intersection is still a four-way stop, and motorists should obey traffic signs at the location.

City officials said the light planned for the Colonial Parkway and Vista Ridge Boulevard intersection should be operational by the end of August.
