Elected officials and community leaders came together April 29 to celebrate the grand opening of the Yellow House Foundation’s new facility in Leander.

“They have a heart for people and making a difference in people’s lives,” Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long said about the people who run YHF, which provides meeting spaces for recovery programs.

Two-minute impact

YHF began operating out of its new 6,075-square-foot facility at 804 Leander Drive on March 1, said Hal Cromwell, fundraising chair for the foundation. Meetings at the facility include Alcoholics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Al Anon, Narcotics Anonymous and more.

Cromwell said the foundation’s fundraising efforts are continual, but the opening of the new building is “a God-given miracle.”

YHF President Demariee Anderson said the foundation had already added two additional 12-step meetings since moving into the building.

“We’ve also noticed that a lot of our meetings have grown since we moved in,” Anderson said.

About 3,300 meeting attendees come through the doors of the new building each month, Cromwell said.

What they’re saying

“Alcohol and drugs can kill people and can destroy lives, but [the foundation is] taking people, sometimes at their worst moments, and working with them and providing a safe place to come to get through those dark days,” Long said.

Cedar Park City Council member Anne Duffy noted the prevalence of the need for services like those provided by YHF.

“I don’t know a family or a friend or anybody that hasn’t been impacted by someone they know with addiction,” Duffy said, noting it’s important for people to have someone to talk to in times of need.

“I’m just thrilled for the community that comes together here,” she said about the space.
