City Council to consider bringing Trader Joe’s to Cedar Park

Though it's in the very early stages, Cedar Park is considering becoming the latest Texas city to get a Trader Joe’s grocery store.

A Dec. 12 filing proposes five buildings be constructed at an approximately 8-acre site on the southwest corner of East Whitestone Blvd. and Arrow Point Drive.

Texas vehicles will no longer need safety inspections beginning Jan. 1

Beginning Jan. 1, Texas drivers will no longer need to get an annual safety inspection to register their vehicles.

However, vehicles must pass emissions tests in major metropolitan areas, and all drivers will pay a $7.50 inspection replacement fee when renewing their vehicle registration. State lawmakers approved the policy change, spearheaded by Rep. Cody Harris, R-Palestine, during the 2023 legislative session.

Costco considers new location in Liberty Hill

Costco may be setting up one of its signature warehouses in Liberty Hill, but city officials warn it's not a done deal yet.

On Dec. 16, the city of Liberty Hill approved a permit from applicant Winkelmann & Associates for a Costco Wholesale warehouse and fuel center at the 106-acre mixed use development site at 433 N US 183. The site is also the location of a new Target store, which is expected to begin construction in January 2025 with a tentative opening date in May 2026, according to previous reporting.

8 businesses coming to North San Antonio in 2025

A disabled-first coffee shop, pickleball courts and a full-service bakery are expected to open North San Antonio in early 2025, according to prior reporting.

Other businesses slated to open this year include a Riverwalk bar, a breakfast and lunch cafe, an early childhood center, a cashless car wash and a community of townhomes.

Samsung awarded $4 billion to further Central Texas investments

The Biden-Harris administration on Dec. 20 announced the United States Department of Commerce awarded tech giant Samsung up to $4.74 billion to further the company’s investments in Central Texas, according to a press release.

The funds will support Samsung in bringing two new “logic fabs,” or semiconductor chip fabrication plants, and a research and development plant to Taylor, Texas. Funds will also support an expansion to the existing facility in Austin.

Goodstock by Nolan Ryan closes Round Rock shop

Goodstock by Nolan Ryan’s Butcher Shop in Round Rock will close, with its last day of operation on Dec. 31. The butcher shop sold custom beef cuts, including steaks, ribs, roasts and ground chuck.
