Some drivers in Leander ISD may experience traffic delays near Rouse High School and Wiley Middle School as students return to school Aug. 14.

Beginning Aug. 7, traffic will be limited to one way eastbound on Woodview Drive and one way southbound on Raider Way from Woodview Drive to Crystal Falls Parkway as the city of Leander works to make improvements.

What residents should know

The city is working to widen Raider Way and Woodview Drive to three lanes and add street lights, sidewalks, crosswalks and bicycle lanes, according to city information. Additionally, construction is underway for a roundabout at the intersection of Raider Way and Woodview Drive. The project is expected to be complete in June 2025, according to city documents.

After meeting with representatives from the city and Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, LISD discovered utility work had slowed the project’s pace and required traffic to flow one way “until further notice,” according to district information.

Drivers should expect to take detours and experience delays up to 30-45 minutes during drop off and pickup times from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and 2:30-4:30 p.m., respectively, according to the city.

Drivers may access Rouse High School and Wiley Middle School by heading north on 183A Toll, turning right on Woodview Drive and turning right again on Raider Way. Residents coming from neighborhoods north of the campuses may detour through Nolan Ranch Road by turning left onto Woodview Drive and right onto Raider Way.

The revised traffic plan is intended to reduce the number of vehicles in the area, and produce a better traffic flow and safer route for young drivers leaving campus, according to district information.

Keep in mind

The district anticipates having additional crossing guards on Raider Way, and off-duty officers will help direct drivers.

Students are advised do the following to minimize traffic:
  • Walk to school
  • Ride the bus
  • Carpool
LISD is asking drivers to:
  • Expect delays
  • Plan ahead, including arriving just before dismissal time and not too early
  • Prioritize safety
  • Be patient, courteous and flexible
