Middle school students in Round Rock ISD will have a new opportunity to take an advanced science class in the coming 2024-25 school year, district officials shared Jan. 18.

What you need to know

During a Jan. 18 school board meeting, RRISD Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez shared that the district will launch an accelerated science path of study that will allow students to take physics as early as eighth grade.

The details

Azaiez said the accelerated science pathway would see three years of typical science curriculum—usually taught over the sixth, seventh and eighth grade—compressed into two years.

What they're saying

"We do realize that for some of our students to be competitive based on what they want to do, and where they want to go, the way we are structured currently does not afford them that opportunity," Azaiez said.
