District officials will consider academic calendars for the 2024-25 school year at an upcoming meeting of the Round Rock ISD board of trustees.

What's happening

Trustees are set to vote between two options for the 2024-25 academic year Dec. 12. This comes after community members have called on the district for more inclusion of religious holidays during previous meetings in which the board has considered the calendars.

The options

Option 1A for the 2024-25 calendar has a start date of Aug. 13, with the first semester ending Dec. 19 and students returning for the spring semester Jan. 7. In this calendar scenario, the last day of classes would be May 22.

Option 1B sets the start date for the school year as Aug. 14, with the first semester ending Dec. 19 and students returning for the spring semester Jan. 7. In this calendar scenario, the school year would also end May 22.

Both calendar options provide a full week for the Thanksgiving holiday. They also include the following holidays, with some falling on staff development days:
  • Yom Kippur, Oct. 11-12
  • Diwali, Nov. 1
  • Kwanzaa, Dec. 26-Jan. 2
  • Christmas, Dec. 25
  • Hanukkah, Dec. 25-Jan. 2
  • Eid al-Fitr, March 31
  • Good Friday, April 18
Option 1A provides for these additional holidays Option 1B does not:
  • Rosh Hashanah, Oct. 2-4
  • Lunar New Year, Jan. 29
