Round Rock-area students will soon have the opportunity to gain job training in the composite materials industry through a partnership between Texas State University, Saleen Performance Parts and Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area.

What you need to know

A no-cost job training program funded by Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area will see an initial class of eight to 10 students complete an apprenticeship with Round Rock-based Saleen Performance Parts, a manufacturer of aftermarket and replacement parts for both street and track vehicles, through Texas State University's Round Rock campus. After completing the program, participants could be offered apprenticeship and employment opportunities with Saleen, a release from the university states.

What they're saying

The release also states that the partnership will address an increased need for workers at with these specialized skills at Saleen.

“We’re proud to celebrate manufacturing careers in Central Texas and grateful for the opportunity to help employers enhance their operations by developing a registered apprenticeship training pipeline,” WSRCA CEO Paul Fletcher said in the release. “Our labor market data continues to highlight the community’s need to fill ‘middle skills’ jobs—those requiring more than a high school diploma but less than a four-year college degree."

What else?

The free composites program will start in January, and will be administered both in person and online. Those interested in applying for the program can contact the university's Continuing Education Office by email at [email protected] or by phone at 800-511-8656.
