Trends in the medical apparel industry are constantly evolving, with frequent innovations in fashion and improvements such as antimicrobial fabric technologies, said Al Bayleyegn, owner of Cedar Park Medical Uniforms.

The retail shop offers apparel for medical professionals, including scrubs and lab coats, as well occupational instruments, such as stethoscopes, Bayleyegn said. School uniforms for students are also available on the store’s website, and uniforms for professional chefs were recently added to the shop’s inventory both in-store and online.

CPMU, which moved to its location on Whitestone Boulevard in May 2015, offers scrubs in a variety of brands, styles, sizes and colors.

“[Customers] like the convenience and the fact that it’s a personal relationship that I try to build,” said Bayleyegn, whose father sold clothes and shoes for a living in Ethiopia, where he grew up.

“I’ve always been around the garment business,” said Bayleyegn, who came to the United States in 1984. “It’s the land of freedom and opportunity. I do not take it for granted.”

Customers can request a special order if a particular item is not available in stock, and shipping is free when orders are placed and picked up at the store. The company’s website features a selection of brands and styles. Online orders can be shipped to the customer’s address, and the shop will match any competitor’s advertised prices.

In recent years, many local hospitals and medical facilities have introduced uniform requirements that are brand-specific and color-coded by department, Bayleyegn said.

“We try to carry the items that people around here need,” he said.

The store, which opened in its original location on Bell Boulevard in 2007, works with many companies and groups in the area, such as medical offices, long-term care facilities, spas and schools, to provide uniform solutions for employees or students.

At Cedar Park High School, students in the health science program practice their skills in clinical settings during their senior year, and many of them buy their scrubs at Bayleyegn’s shop, instructor Tami Beall said.

“They’ve been very friendly and very helpful getting the students sized correctly,” Beall said. “Cedar Park Uniforms just really takes care of [the students] and gets them what they need. It makes my job easier.”
